The short version

Huge demand at the top, and easy wins underneath

'Immigration lawyer' is one of the biggest legal searches in the country, and it's hard to rank for. But the specific case types beneath it, like marriage green cards, deportation defense, U visas and stuck-case lawsuits, have high click prices and very low difficulty. Those are the pages that bring in clients first.

Key takeaways

What the data tells you before you build a page

  • 01

    The hub term is enormous

'Immigration lawyer' gets 301,000 searches a month at $8.96 a click, and the hub page covers about 1.06 million searches across its keywords. At KD 43 it takes time, but 'immigration lawyer near me' (18,100 searches) has a KD of only 13.

  • 02

Some niche pages have extreme click prices

'Mandamus USCIS' runs $65 a click at KD 3. 'Political asylum lawyer' is $35, 'U visa immigration lawyer' $23.51 and 'E-2 visa lawyer' $22.21. Small searches, but each one is a client ready to pay for help.

  • 03

Family cases are fast to win

'Marriage immigration lawyer' (880 searches, $13.18 a click, KD 5), 'K-1 visa lawyer' ($15.47, KD 4) and 'family immigration lawyer' (1,900 searches, KD 9) are low-difficulty, high-value pages most firms can rank quickly.

  • 04

Removal defense is urgent and winnable

'Deportation defense lawyer' gets 1,600 searches at $10.36 a click with a KD of 6, and 'deportation lawyer' adds 1,300 more at $11.04. 'Immigration bond lawyer' (KD 4) catches families in the first hours after a detention.

  • 05

Your local court is a traffic magnet

'Orlando immigration court' gets 2,400 searches a month at KD 11, and the court page covers about 156,000 searches including case status and hearing questions. People checking on a court date are often the ones who need a lawyer.

  • 06

Form and process questions drive research traffic

'US citizenship test' gets 40,500 searches, 'green card renewal' 22,200 and 'I-751' 12,100. Every practice area comes with the questions to answer, and 50 supporting guides link that traffic back to the service pages.

Recurring renewals and change cycles; “daca lawyer” 590/mo (KD 6) and TPS terms add steady intake.

Fewer, stronger pages

Pages to merge instead of build

Two pages chasing the same intent split their authority and compete with each other. These belong together.

  • Criminal charges and immigration statusDeportation defense

Zero-volume primary term and overlapping user intent (consequences of convictions, removability, relief) fit best within removal defense; consolidating avoids thin content and strengthens a single, higher-authority page.

  • Naturalization test and interviewCitizenship and naturalization

Topics, keywords, and SERP intent overlap with the citizenship hub’s interview/test sub-intent; merging prevents cannibalization and concentrates link equity under the core citizenship section.

Found in the data

New page opportunities

Low-difficulty local terms the original plan didn't include. Small volume, but often fast to win and high intent.

  • USCIS case status: check your immigration services status

    22,200/mo87$2.76 CPC

High-volume navigational intent (22,200/mo; related “us immigration status case” 22,200/mo) warrants a dedicated tool/guide that captures branded case-check searches and routes users to consultations when cases are delayed or problematic.

  • Immigration law: what it covers and how cases move through the system

    550,000/mo70$5.43 CPC

Massive informational volume (550,000/mo, KD 70) justifies a cornerstone explainer to attract TOFU traffic and funnel to relevant service pages (family, employment, removal, humanitarian).

  • H4 to H1 change of status

    170/mo0

Specific COS pathway with measurable demand (170/mo) not covered in the initial sub-pillars; adds targeted capture and internal links to H-1B/work visa services.

  • F1 to H4 change of status

    140/mo20

Distinct student-to-dependent COS intent (140/mo) complements existing COS sub-pages and supports cross-links to Student Visas and H-1B pipelines.

  • Dual citizenship lawyer services

    590/mo11

Commercial intent (590/mo, KD 11) merits a service-focused child page under the dual citizenship hub to convert readers seeking attorney help.

The hub, marriage green cards, deportation defense, asylum, green card renewal, citizenship, work visas, adjustment of status, U visas, mandamus, family petitions and removing conditions carry most of the hiring intent. Get those live and strong before anything else.

  2. 02

Lead with the low-difficulty, high-CPC pages

The hub term takes months. Marriage, K-1, U visa, mandamus, deportation and bond pages all have a KD under 10 and click prices over $7. Ranking those first brings in consults while the hub builds authority.

  3. 03

Give each form and case type its own page

People search by form number and situation: I-751, I-90, I-485, I-589, H-1B, E-2. A page for each, written plainly, matches how people actually search and lets each one rank on its own.

  4. 04

Link in the same shape as the sitemap

Guides link up to their service page, and service pages link up to the hub. Related cases should link to each other: marriage green cards to adjustment of status and removing conditions, deportation defense to bonds, cancellation of removal and appeals.

  5. 05

Write in the languages your clients speak

Many immigration clients search in Spanish, Haitian Creole or Portuguese. This research is English-only, but the same page structure works for translated versions, and they usually face much less competition.

Avoid these traps

4 common mistakes with immigration keywords

  • Betting everything on 'immigration lawyer'

It has the volume, but also KD 43 and some of the strongest competition in legal search. A firm that only optimizes its homepage for it will wait a long time. The case-type pages bring in clients much sooner.

  • Chasing huge informational terms as money pages

The citizenship test questions guide covers about 195,000 searches, but at $0.21 a click. Most of those people are studying, not hiring. Answer the question well, then link to the naturalization page for people who want help.

  • Building pages for other cities' courts and offices

Location keywords only help where you can actually serve clients. Build your local court and field office pages, and skip the out-of-state terms. We removed those from this map.

  • Splitting one topic across thin pages

The naturalization test belongs under the citizenship page, and conviction consequences belong in deportation defense. On their own, they compete with your main pages and neither ranks.

A 125-page plan is a lot to build between hearings

Immigration clients are trusting you with their family's future, and many are scared. Turning this map into ranking pages means writing service pages that are clear and reassuring, building guides that actually explain the forms and timelines, linking it all together, and keeping your Google Business Profile and reviews in step.

That's the work we do for immigration firms, tracked to real calls and consult requests rather than traffic. If you'd rather spend your time on cases than building pages, we can take it from here.

Common questions

Immigration keyword FAQs

  • Every keyword, volume, difficulty score and CPC comes from Semrush's U.S. database, pulled in October 2026 from 44 seed keywords across 32 planned practice-area pages. AI was used only to group keywords into pages and suggest structure; any keyword it suggested that wasn't in the Semrush data was thrown out. We also removed keywords for other states and cities.

  • This map lands on 125: one immigration hub, 74 practice-area and sub-pages, and 50 supporting guides. You don't need all of them on day one. Start with the P1 pages, like the hub, marriage green cards, deportation defense and asylum, then add the rest in the build order.

  • Look for low difficulty with real hiring intent. 'Mandamus USCIS' (KD 3), 'immigration lawyer for green card renewal' (KD 3), 'K-1 visa lawyer' (KD 4), 'U visa immigration lawyer' (KD 4), 'marriage immigration lawyer' (KD 5) and 'deportation defense lawyer' (KD 6) are all far easier than 'immigration lawyer.'

  • Because the cases are complex and the clients are motivated. Someone searching 'mandamus USCIS' has a case stuck for months and is ready to sue, and an E-2 investor is putting real money on the line. Firms bid $20 to $65 a click for those terms, and ranking organically saves that spend every month.

  • Yes. Immigration is federal law, so almost every page applies anywhere. The one local page is the immigration court page, built here for Orlando. Swap in your own court and USCIS field office.

  • For 'immigration lawyer' and 'immigration attorney,' expect 12 months or more of consistent work. Low-difficulty case-type pages like marriage green cards, U visas and mandamus can move in a few months. Nobody honest can promise a specific ranking or date.

Keyword data is from Semrush's U.S. database as of October 2026. Volume, difficulty and CPC are directional and shift over time. Check them again before building a campaign around any single term.
